I am a teacher at Nokomis Elementary School and have had the extreme joy of working with Ann Thornhill and the Neuhaus programs. I have taken three on-line courses: Reading Readiness, Reading Fluency, and Vocabulary Development. All of the courses were excellent, and I was able to apply what I learned immediately. I cannot thank you enough for making this possible. I have learned so much. I have been teaching for 36 years in California, Washington, Norway, and Thailand. Never in all of my teaching experiences have I worked with a program as amazing as Neuhaus. I am a Resource Specialist and work with learning disabled students as well as others needing intensive intervention. Because of this, I am able to teach all three years of Language Enrichment in addition to Reading Readiness with my first grade group. The reading fluency and vocabulary development apply to all of my students. Every day is a joy. My students are learning, and I have increased my knowledge! Because of ... more

I love all items presented and can definitely use in tutorial sessions. I really like the games! Play Concentration, Name that Derivative & Logomaniac. I like the lesson plan presentation, step by step instructions - I can implement next day! Great ideas!

I really enjoyed this class, and will be able to take information from it and use it Monday morning for both my middle school and high school classes. The vocabulary activities fit in very well with DMS ( I use that for my middle school reading comprehension classes) and will give more enrichment for my students. For my high school fluency class, they struggle most with speed and understanding. I will be able to use all of the maps and activities to help them improve their reading skills.

I really liked the ideas for making the vocabulary practice into games. I will use these games in my small group instruction.

Currently I teach students in grades 3-5 some morphology and Marzano for vocabulary. I will definitely begin using the webs with my students, and I understand to place a greater emphasis on vocabulary learning. (Developing Vocabulary for Reading Success)

I will be using semantic, derivative and multiple meaning webs as well as the semantic features matrix. Ranking is also useful and a great way to decipher the intensity between words. I was very interested in knowing the origins of words and what clues to look for in determining their origin. Incorporating games is also a great way to keep students motivated while learning.

I loved the Word sorts and the matrix. I think these will be useful to use with my students to help them see that they are learning it. (said of Developing Vocabulary for Reading Success)

The material of this course is fabulous! I have become even more interested in origins of words through taking Developing Vocabulary for Reading Success. I've also realized that I was never explicitly taught word roots and it would have been a great benefit to me in school. Thanks, Neuhaus!

I really liked the different web activities and the 12 steps to the vocabulary lesson plan. I will implement everything that I learned in this class.

This year I am very concerned with teaching vocabulary. As a result, the course provided me with many new ideas.

Developing Vocabulary for Reading Success: I am going to try to use them (the strategies) all - I have already started using the semantic web and derivative web with my DMS lessons. I will add the Multiple-Meaning web next time I remember it in a lesson. I will use the ranking in DMS lessons - so far, I have just had the words on separate little cards for manipulations - the chart is good. I think I can use the fill in the Missing words as a good summative activity - maybe even grade since I have to find ways to provide some grades for my BLS students. I think concentration will be a fun way to get in more practice with morphemes (for me too). I am not sure about the word profile and the semantic feature matrix - I may try them - but I am always pushed for time - and I can see these two taking lots of student time to do them well.

Developing Vocabulary for Reading Success: I am a dyslexia therapist working one on one with nine individual students. My nine students range from book 1-3 in Basic Language Skills and range in grades first through fifth. I will definitely continue to incorporate all of these new activities as well as some that I already learned in DMS and History of the English Language. I continue to be amazed at how Neuhaus can constantly create new techniques to teach such relevant material. Thank you for continuing to inspire me to be a better teacher.

Reading Readiness Online class: I learned so much about helping early readers. I wish I had taken this as a parent to help my own children when they were younger.

On Reading Readiness class online: "This class is very well prepared and student friendly. It is also very enjoyable. I have taught for 25 years and there are more games and activities in this book than I have ever seen. I feel like I can start today and use each activity successfully. I also feel like I can match each particular student's need to an efficient and effective activity."

I am very new to teaching and I have found everything in Reading Readiness (Neuhaus Education Center) useful. I love the activities and look forward to using them with my students.

This (Developing Metacognitive Skills, Neuhaus Education Center) has been among the most useful professional developments I have ever attended. These strategies actually meet my students where they are. The lessons included seem meaningful, the passages are appropriate and the strategies are legitimate. I can't believe I waited this long to attend.

I have the utmost respect for Neuhaus Education Center and feel so blessed to live in proximity to such an excellent source of professional development. I especially want to convey my appreciation for the Reading Teachers Network. This web-based resource has been a tremendous source of continuing education for me as I have embarked upon my journey toward CALT certification. As a teacher and assessor of students with both dyslexia and common reading difficulties, I am constantly encouraged and empowered by this reliable resource that is only as far away as my computer. I have recently begun mentoring a newly hired dyslexia teacher who was trained in Alphabetic Phonics about 15 years ago while she was teaching for HISD. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be able to refer her to the videos of trained educators for review of the various components of the lesson cycle. Before your organization launched this website we certainly had no idea that such constant mentoring would be ... more

"I have been struggling to find an effective spelling strategy for my students. Scientific spelling will enable them to actually learn our language more effectively. I am excited to teach them some concrete ways to improve their spelling."
