Comprehension: Story Elements
Knowledge of the tools writers use to engage the reader in the journey through a story can help with deeper understanding. The following picture books can be used to model "teasing out" the following story elements: flashback, foreshadowing, symbolism, conflict/problem resolution, character analysis, setting, plot, theme, point of view, allusion, and irony.
